Best Jambon Beurre in Paris

Since I was alone in Paris, I had many things on my to-d0 list. One, was find the best Jambon-beurre sandwich in Paris. So I spent HOURS (yes, HOURS) researching and looking at where I could find this best sandwich.

Jambon beurre is ham and butter in French. It is a classic sandwich and one I love to eat more than any other sandwich. (picture of pig because of the ham).

So, I ended up at Le Parizot. AND HOLY COW (or should I say, holy pig), it was indeed the best sandwich I have ever ever ever eaten in my life.

A hole in the wall. Only one type of sandwich — jambon beurre. A choice of three different hams, 2 types of butter, and if you wanted additions (cheese, mustard, and relish).

There was a line — I waited almost 35 minutes — and it was worth every minute. Only one person was allowed in to the store at a time. And the employee would slice all the ham, cut the bread, slather the butter in front of you. Nothing was prepared in advance, all of it in front of you.

I asked him for what was the best — and he said the ham with the spices, add cheese and relish. So I did exactly what he said, and it was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

I dream of sandwiches like this. If you are in Paris, 100 percent go visit.

You must go. In the meantime, I would love to recreate this sandwich — but it was obviously the ingredients that made it so good. The ham was incredible, the butter, the relish, oh me oh my.

Pop Up Bagels

One of Tusia’s best friends brought over THE BEST BAGELS AND BUTTER I have ever tasted. Currently all the rage, Pop Up Bagels, is rumored to be one of the best (if not the best) bagel in NYC at this time.

They have a lot of locations in the tristate area — 3 in the city (UWS, UES, downtown) — Westchester, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Every time I have walked by, the lines have been out the door. So when our bestie stopped by with bagels and butter for us, it was a win win HAPPY day!

GOOPGENES body butter

Truth be told, Instagram first sold me GOOPGENES body butter. I couldn’t believe that I was actually buying a GOOP product sold to me on social media…..but I did it. And hot damn, I am glad I did. I used up the first container in a month — I couldn’t stop lathering my body with the rich, luxurious cream. I felt my skin soaking up the nutrients of the cream and it was so hydrating — so, now, I am an absolute believer in this body butter.

GOOP GENES.

Bread and Butter

If you know me well, you know that I love bread and butter more than anything. Not any bread and butter, but really, really good bread, and really, really good butter (deep). The salty fatty kind that just adds so much flavor. I could eat bread and butter for every meal. I know, very European. And SOOOOOOO my parents. My parents are the type that walk to the bakery everyday to get a fresh loaf of bread. I cannot remember a time in my life where there wasn’t a fresh loaf in the bread drawer. Of course, there is always a variety too — raisin bread, rye bread, ancient oat bread, you name it — we all have our favorites. So when I recently discovered 123Dough in Pound Ridge, I fell in love, and also felt like I had become my parents….nothing tastes better than a slice of bread (I like thin slices, I don’t like too thick) with some French Butter.

Look how cute 123 Dough is. It literally just has bread and some condiments — but the bread is fresh, organic, and oh so delicious.

My Go-To Sandwich

Every week, I find myself at the counter of Epicerie Bouloud to pick up my favorite sandwich in the world. Aside from cucumbers and granola (my other go-to foods), I could eat this sandwich EVERY MEAL OF EVERY DAY and be happy as a clam. Not only does it remind me of Paris, but it satisfies all my taste buds — butter, ham, cheese, bread — THANK YOU, GOD.

BIG! You can split this….or you can eat it all for yourself! (Like I do!)

Butter Culture

As many of you know, I love butter. Not just ‘like’ butter, but LOVE butter. It is actually my go-to snack. I smother it on bread, croissants, rice cakes, anything… And because of this, I am a butter snob.  And here in Oregon, the land of hand batched, artisan everything, there is GREAT butter. Thanks to Butter Culture, I am now eating more butter than ever.

Butter Culture. Not only does it taste great, but the packaging is spot on.

Ronnybrook Butter

Hands down my favorite food product is “butter.” YUP, butta. Love it. LOOOVE it. Like an unusual amount — I can actually eat it by the spoonful if it is good butter. Sounds gross, but good butter is better than anything. European butter is my favorite, but in the USA, I used to settle for Kerry Gold Butter. That is, until I discovered Ronnybrook Butter, and it is to die for.

Heaven. Sweet and salty. The perfect combination.
