Dehydrated Peaches

Earlier this week, we went peach picking (one of my favorite pastimes in Oregon….  fun, beautiful, and super inexpensive. WIN WIN all around). In 20 minutes, we gathered 35 pounds of delicious and perfect peaches. As much as I love peaches, that is a WHOLE lot of peaches to eat….especially since they go bad very quickly. So within minutes, I made two crisps (a little bit of oatmeal, a little bit of butter, a little bit of sugar and VOILA).  But there was still 30 plus pounds left….so we decided to dehydrate them and they are oh so good.

Me and my partner in crime. She weighs just slightly more than the peaches.

I purposely put her in her “peach” (it is actually an apple) t-shirt, because when you have the option of matching the background, you SHOULD.

Hats, tevas, and peaches.

DID YOU SEE HOW BEAUTIFUL the peaches are? They are utter perfection.

To dehydrate peaches, you first need to peel the skin and then slice them in to thin slices. THIS IS NOT EASY.

Then you place them on a rack in the oven at 150 degrees with the door slightly open for SEVERAL HOURS. It varies in time depending on the thickness, could be 5 hours, could be 12.

Once they are dry, you will know.

Juicy. They are like dried mangoes. Except for they are dried peaches. 🙂

36 peaches filled this tiny tupperware.

And they will be gone in a couple of days.

So good — and dehydrated is a great way to eat healthy fruit! Happy weekend!
