After our excursion downtown to Mercer Labs, we went to Chinatown for dim sum lunch. Through a friend I met on vacation (an Australian Chinese woman), we went to House of Joy. This was truly a cultural experience — very authentic — and I loved every minute of it.

Girls outside the restaurant. I love Chinatown, it has such character, flair, and high energy.
You know a restaurant is good when all its customers are locals. Literally every one in the restaurant was Chinese (okay, maybe 5 people weren’t, but the restaurant was HUUUUUUUGE and 99.9% Chinese).

It is a traditional Chinese dim sum banquet style restaurant, where you sit at any table with spots. Although we were five people, we shared a table with four other people (and yes, I eavesdropped the entire time and know a ton about the two couples lives).

They go around with different carts, and you chose what you want.

I loved these shrimp dumplings. The girls didn’t love the dumplings or pork buns, but they DID love the fried rice we got them.

You win some, you dim sum.

If you want to go to Chinatown and have a solid meal, a great experience, and soak in all the flavors of Chinatown, HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend House of Joy.
Hope you are having a great week! And if you have any restaurant or fun activity suggestions for me, do pass them on. I love trying new things!
