Turtle Conservancy

Last weekend, I had the privilege of going to see my son at boarding school in Ojai, California. Although I had been there three weeks before to attend Family Weekend, I wanted another chance to just go see Cruzzie and his friends, and be with him for a relaxed weekend. It was an absolute incredible time — not just because I spent precious time with my boy, but also because I stayed in a secret gem hotel, the Turtle Conservancy.

The entry way.

Discrete houses all over the property.

Most people do not know that the Turtle Conservancy is actually a hotel in addition to a place to visit to see turtles. Situated on 90 acres of pristine nature in Ojai, California, the conservation center provides care to over 600 turtles and 40 species, some of which are considered extinct in the wild. But once you become a member, you have access to being able to rent rooms, like a hotel — truly a secret gem).

Incredible scenery.

Love the colors of the sun going down on the palm trees.

The fresh oranges from the property. The houses are basic with no TVs, no thrills, but they provide oranges and coffee — and what else do you need?

Additionally, you can walk around and see TURTLES!

My little house had a bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen.

My room!

Me and my boy.

I highly suggest that if you happen to find yourself in Ojai, that you become a member and stay here. It is a unique experience and a must do. AND, if you find yourself interested in Thacher, the Turtle Conservancy is on THACHER ROAD and is 0.25 from campus — can’t beat the location. I hope you are having a great week — I am back in NYC, so back to reality, the cold, and no fresh oranges from the outside tree.
