The biggest run of my life — both mentally and physically — takes place next Thursday. It is not just any run, but a trail ultramarathon in the Grand Canyon — from South Rim down to base, to top of North Rim, down to base and back again to South Rim. If all goes well — and there are a lot of IFS, ANDS, and BUTS — the run will be 43 miles long. It is not on flat surface or on streets, but on trails. So I have had to learn (and buy) a lot of gear for this new adventure. Though trial and error, and recommendations from people I trust, here is what I have that I love.
My upcoming run. EEKS.
Patagonia Hydration Vest
The vest is key. I have everything I need in it — 2.5 liters of water (!!!), al my fuel, phone, poles, you name it, it has space for it. I tried a lot (4 to be exact) of hydration vests, and this was my favorite.
Black Diamond Distance Z Carbon Poles
These poles are light, and they fold up and you place them in your vest. I am only going to use one pole, because although comfortable, it still is weight.
All Access Biker Shorts
I have become a super geeky looking runner. I DON’T LOOK COOL OR HIP. But everything I am wearing has a function and fits well.
Tracksmith Twilight Crop Tank
I LOVE THIS TANK. It is the perfect lightweight tank. Not too tight, not too loose, just perfect.
Tracksmith Allston Pocket Bra
This bra has a special pocket for you to place your phone in it, which is ideal for this run coming up. It is also very comfortable and doesn’t rub on my skin.
Patagonia Houdini Jacket
Since it will be cold at the start of the run, I needed a coat that you could squish up to the size of a tennis ball and store in my hydration vest. This one is literally perfect.
