Gjusta + Getty Villa

Ok, so going with my theory of always doing something cultural and eating something delicious, we had a great day at Gjusta Bakery and visiting the Getty Villa (different than the Getty Center!) in Los Angeles. These are not next to each other, but it was a quick drive from the bakery to the villa. And we wanted to do both (and recommend both, too!)

GJUSTA BAKERY

Gjusta is the sister restaurant of Gjelina (which is forever my favorite restaurant in LA, and also has the best cookbook and best sticky toffee pudding you will ever eat). It is located in Venice and everything in it is just beautiful and delicious.

Cruzzie got this (boring) croissant. I got the most incredible egg sandwich with kale and bacon, but was so hungry that I devoured it before I could take a picture.

They also have a store Nextdoor, and I just loved everything in it. This california poppy plate made me so happy (I love california poppies).

And they have a flower shop — and this bouquet was to die for. I want to recreate it when home in NYC!

THE GETTY VILLA

The Getty Villa is north of Pacific Palisades and just reopened post-fire from January. It was SO lucky to not have any damage and is still standing. This incredible villa is fun just to look around and browse — the art collection of the roman sculptures isn’t exactly my thing — but just soaking up the views and the beauty of the villa was truly enjoyable.

I loved this view. We reserved tickets online (you must do it in advance) and it is free — just pay for parking!

I loved the various tiles around the villa.

Especially this one.

And of course the view of the Pacific Ocean is truly one of a kind.

Also during our stay in Los Angeles, we went to a dozen vintage shops (Cruzzie is really in to vintage shopping), malls (he arrived home from Guatemala with no shoes. Don’t ask), In N out (2 times), Erewhon (maybe 6 times — will do a post on my haul there, dont you worry!), went to the movies, ran a lot, did a hike, and soaked up quality time with my uncle. All making the time there memorable, fun, and great.
