NY Historical Society Exhibits

It has been exactly one year since Flaco died, RIP. If you don’t remember, Flaco, was an escaped owl from Central Park Zoo, who roamed Central Park for a year’s time. I, along with many other New Yorkers, became enthralled and fascinated with Flaco (see my post here from March 2023)

I spent many many hours (and steps) searching for Flaco. I followed specific websites to find location, and just fell in love with the story of Flaco being free.

I finally saw Flaco that March, and it was absolutely incredible. Flaco’s story brought smiles and joy to so many New Yorkers — including myself.

So when I read that The NY Historical Society Museum had an exhibit on Flaco, I rushed at the chance to visit. Although a small exhibit, there are many other exhibits worth visiting, so it made it worthwhile.

The building is located on 77th and Central Park West — directly across the Museum of Natural History. If you are feeling brave, you can visit both in one day. But if you are like me, we went just to see Flaco and anything else that inspired us.

Flaco.

Tusia loved reading all about Flaco.

There was a guest book where people wrote down their memories of Flaco — and that in itself was worth the visit.

Beautiful building, too.

We also went to this exhibit which was fun and cute.

This made me laugh — it is SO true — this is what so many dog walkers look like in the city.

Our pet in the city.

So if you need a winter activity, highly suggest going to this museum. We coupled it with a trip to Momofuku Noodle Bar Uptown which was on the UWS as well. Great cold afternoon.
