Missing My Boy

Over two weeks ago, we dropped Cruzzie, my 9th grader off at school. Yes, he is at boarding school. No, it is not punishment. Yes, it is exciting. Yes, I miss him like crazy. Yes, he is in California and it is far away from NYC. But Thacher, is absolutely the best place for him and we could not be more excited and thrilled for him and this new chapter in his life. I love Thacher SOOOOOOO much and have to share some of the photos of his school just so you have more of a perspective on his life right now (because, sadly, he will not be pictured in many posts since he will be gone most of the time!)

Thacher is in Ojai — which is in Southern California. It is super hip, gorgeous, and beyond beautiful. So jealous of the location of his school! And I know Cruzzie is thrilled to not take photos — look how thrilled he looks here.

We fly to LAX and then drive 1.5 hours to Ojai. Not complaining about the beauty of the drive — hello Pacific Ocean!

This is the dining hall. You get to look out at the mountains for every meal — incredible.

This is his room — we worked hard to make it feel homey and comfortable. I love all the little touches — but you know it probably will never be that clean again!

The freshmen boys all have singles, and each room opens up to a courtyard. I love the barn doors.

To the outside. They all have shoe racks outside….which makes me wonder if he has ever swept his room…..

He had 10 days of Orientation / camping trip / acclimation but started school last week. Now, he is learning the routine and getting more the hang of it. One thing we have not gotten in to a rhythm yet is when to talk!

It is a 3 hour time difference and I go to bed early — so I miss him so much!

Luckily we do get to FaceTime a lot — but he doesn’t tell us that much. He LOVES school, loves his friends, loves everything. But that is all I know!

It is also really hot right now….

And his advisor group has good looking people!

So, our new normal is happening, but it still feels like I have a limb removed. I love how much fun Cruzzie is having — but I miss him oh so much. Yet, forever grateful we found a school that seems like the perfect match. Thank you for letting me share these photos with you! It is so true — the days are long, the years are short. I cannot believe I have a high schooler!
