Poetry Boxes

One of the reasons I love my hometown [1] is that it feels so 1960s. Like a happy hippy commune. Nothing is upscale, fancy, or pretentious. Everything has a super “love makes the world go round” “kumbaya” type of vibe. Case in point:  Eugene has ‘poetry boxes’ dispersed throughout the town. They perfectly describe Eugene — random mailboxes in town with poems to share with the community (what is NOT to love about this).

Two blocks from my parents house is this mailbox with the poetry. They change it once a month.

Just a random box.

Just a random box. But with hope and love and dreams INSIDE.

A couple blocks down the street is this mailbox (I emailed the email account listed asking for the other locations of the boxes -- it could be a fun project to go around town and collect all the poems).

Another poetry box a couple blocks away. “Poetry, like the moon, does not advertise anything.”

There are also little libraries on random corners so people can donate books or read books.

Isn’t this just a fun little touch? Watch out Manhattan… I am bringing this to the East Coast!
