As readers know, I am “all about” wellness and health trends and exploring new treatments that work for me. Cryotherapy has been on my to-do list for the past year, but I just recently made it happen at my good friend’s suggestion… thanks B!
What is cyrotherapy? It is a freezing cold (-230 degrees!!) chamber that you go in to for up to three minutes. The cold air does not contain any moisture and there is no air current. The treatment is not easy – it is freezing and it feels like your skin is burning pins and needles. So basically, you go in to this cold chamber with socks, mittens, ear muffs, undies and bra, and you dance around for 1.5 to 3 minutes.
It is basically a freezing cold ice bath for your body. It is said to reduce inflammation, boost the immune system, decrease muscle soreness, improve sleep, and smooth wrinkles. Basically, it does everything and anything!
How does it work? The extreme low temperatures stimulate receptors which prompt the body to draw blood from the extremities to the core to protect the organs. Once you exit the therapy, blood is pumped around the body which increases oxygen supply and removes toxins, increasing endorphins and reducing inflammation. Tada, you feel so much better!
So would I go again? Absolutely. But always with a friend, as you need the support and encouragement by someone you love and trust (mind you, it has to be a GOOD friend, because they see you in your under garments). Do I see the benefits post treatment? Not yet, but I only went once, so am looking forward to going again soon! I believe that it works, even though I have yet to see it work on me 🙂 Happy Friday!
I recently just went to my first Cryotherapy as well and it definitely helped speed up my recovery after my intense workout. Glad you enjoyed your experience, Anika!
Brrrrr… sounds painful but there’s no beauty without pain!
That’s so cool! I’ve never heard of that before!
Really good to know that you have shared your Cryo Therapy experience with us! I totally agree that a support of best friend is needed to get through these therapies. Thanks!
