Just finished a great weekend with the family all together, as Ken is out for the week here in Oregon. We went on a hike , attended a puppet show , drank some coffee , and ventured to the Oregon Country Fair . So, although I am not in New York for the summer, here is a list of ten activities that I would do if I were there.
1. Shop at the Artists and Fleas pop up store at Chelsea Market.
Artists & Fleas at Chelsea Market brings together a collection of independent designers, emerging artists and vintage collectors from the Artists & Fleas family (originally based in Williamsburg). Think “old world bazaar” meets “new world boho-chic”. It is fun to look at the jewelry, art, home accessories, clothing… you name it — they have it! Perfect for checking out when wandering on the High Line .
2. Go to the Rain show at the MoMa.
This is an exhibition that I am dearly sad to miss out on. It closes on July 28th, so rush there now! The room is a field of falling water that pauses wherever a human body is detected. Basically, it makes you feel like you are controlling the rain and playing GOD. After 4 on Fridays, it is free !
3. Take the East River Ferry to Dumbo.
4. Clink champagne glasses at the Roof garden at the Met.
Eat, drink, and gaze at the beautiful scenery from the very top of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
5. Bike or Run on Summer Streets.
For three consecutive Saturdays in August, entire streets will be closed to cars, so that pedestrians will be able to roam free. Ride your bike, roller skate, run, or take a stroll. It goes from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm and the route extends from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park along Park Ave (7 miles long!).
6. See a rooftop movie.
Not just any outdoor movie or theatre, Rooftop movies show independent movies in outdoor locations. HOLLA! To see the list of films, go here .
7. Gobble up Halo Halo at Pig and Khao.
Married to a half-Filipino, I have eaten my share of Filipino food. Not necessarily a devoted fan of most of the dishes, but a HUGE fan of halo-halo. I can’t get enough!!! Halo-halo is crumbly ice with toppings that include everything-but-the-kitchen-sink (crisped rice, flan, plantains, mango, candies) and then topped with condensed milk and ice cream. Oh.Em.Gee.
8. Shake your bootie at the Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z concert.
This week! Hurry — buy now! And go, July 19th! And how cool is Jay-Z? Check out this article here .
9. Get cultured at a TED x Upper East Side talk.
On August 4th, TED talks come to the Upper East Side (Bohemian Benevolent Society) with its signature mix of intellectual and interesting speakers and performances to spark discussions and thoughts. To see the list of speakers, go here .
10. Eat your heart out at Smorgasburg.
Saturday and Sundays from 11 to 6, lots of food to stuff in your face! Featured earlier this Spring on the blog. To visit all the highlights and food suggestions, go here .
So, there you have it. A list of 10 activities to do while in NYC for the summer. Enjoy! Have a great week. We have a super jammed week ahead of us — wine tasting, swimming in rivers, grilling, cuddling on a hammock, shopping in Portland, hiking, biking, and reading together as a family. AHHHHH summer… And the 5 winners of the Josie Baggus have been selected, and will be contacted later today. Good luck!
