Hurricane Sandy

As many of you know, a good part of the Northeast was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy from Monday into Tuesday.  Unlike last year, when Hurricane Irene turned out to be a lot milder than people were anticipating, Sandy caused some serious problems.  We were incredibly fortunate that we escaped without harm (and with power), but we were definitely in the minority.

You have probably seen the sheer destruction pictures on the internet. Here are some subtle pics from our neighborhood the morning after:

Park Avenue looking downtown. Usually you can't stand in the middle of the street and take a picture at 8 AM on a Tuesday.

Our local corner shop, Smiley's. Ken's family has lived in this neighborhood forever, and Smiley's stayed open through 9/11, Hurricanes Gloria and Irene, and the blackout. Not surprisingly, it was open.

A crane working on a high rise collapsed due to the strength of the wind. Miraculously, it didn't fall to the ground. Can't imagine what could have happened.

In retrospect, we are lucky other cranes, like this huge one a few blocks from our apartment, didn't meet the same fate.

Just a few weeks ago, the Saks windows were full of Josie Natori Ready-to-Wear, Lingerie, Couture, and Sleepwear. Due to Sandy, they were boarded up.

We are incredibly lucky, and many other families and neighborhoods weren’t.  Wishing everyone the best.

And due to the Hurricane, and the Natori office closure on Monday and Tuesday, all of the winners from last week’s giveaways will be announced on Friday. Until then…
