Summer Grilling: Fruit

With summer officially coming to an end in a few weeks, grilling season in the Northeast is starting to wind down. Readers of the blog know that I try to provide healthier takes on every day meals and recipes.  I (aka, master griller Ken) did a previous post on Grilled Artichokes, and now… Grilled Fruit!

Ken is in charge of (and loves) grilling.  But if it were up to him, our grilled meals would include a lot more cheeseburgers, flank steak, and ribs than I am comfortable with.  So, we try to compromise by always grilling some fish and meat, and by including vegetables, and now, fruit.  Grilling fruit is a great way to encourage fruit consumption, and the heat brings out more of the natural sugars.  Delicious and healthy!

Ingredients:

Fruit (we used apples, nectarines, bananas, peaches)

A dab of melted butter to lightly coat the fruit (optional)

Cut (and pit) any round fruit in half. Cut bananas lengthwise. Lightly brush with butter (optional).

Apples take about 4 minutes a side, while the peaches, nectarines, and bananas are about 2.5 minutes a side (medium heat).

Peel your apples! (We did not = mistake).

4 minutes in. Apples (after they were flipped). Nectarines, peaches, and bananas just on the grill.

Post flip - yum. The less you check/move the fruit, the better your grill lines are (if you care).

Voila!

Grilling is a great way to sneak some more fruit into your diet.  And it is super easy too.

Have a great weekend!

  1. The grilled fruit would be good with chocolate sauce as well. The fruit looks delicious and I also enjoyed seeing the Italian pottery.
