November 2017 Chill Playlist

Most of my playlists are for when I run, but here is what I like to listen to during the day when I am working on my computer (writing blogs), cooking food, getting dressed, etc…  It’s a whole different feeling than my running playlists, but there is still a lot of teeny bopper pop and electronic. I love what I love! Enjoy!

I also like to listen to music when my legs are up the wall….

Currently Loving October 2017

One more day left of October, so not too late for “Currently Loving” for the month! Here they are! Here is what I am currently loving in October 2017!

1. Busy Philipps

Her name is Busy. Her daughters names are Birdie and Cricket — now do you wonder why I want her to be my BFF?

I don’t know her from tv or movies, but I somehow landed on her instagram account (isn’t that how everything works these days….everything leads back to instagram…) and became obsessed with her instagram stories. She is genuine, authentic, beautiful, and oh so funny. I love her taste in music, clothes, and random thoughts. You must watch her on her stories — too funny. I also am determined to become friends with her…anyone have a connection? Sign me up please!

September 2017 Running Playlist

Since my next marathon is 11 days away (but who is counting?), I am compiling motivational songs to help my runs and overall energy. Here is my latest running playlist. Enjoy!

Me running, or pretending to run. Looks like I am on Mars, but I am in Utah. We just returned from a short belated 10th Anniversary celebration.  Stay tuned for full details!

Currently Loving September 2017

Happy September, happy back to real life! I hope everyone settles in to the fall with ease and peace despite the craze and chaos it tends to bring. I know that I am trying to take one day at a time; better yet, hour to hour. I am not sure how summer disappeared as fast as it did, but I’m happy we created fond and wonderful memories that will forever be in our hearts! That said, here is what I am currently loving!

1. Slides. Yes, I know, shower slides from the 1990s are finally back in. I have been a fan of them the past two summers and have worn them non-stop. I love that they are easy, and go with everything. Although not practical for urban daily city life, I plan on wearing them once again NEXT summer, too. Thank god they are finally in fashion — last year I got a lot of weird looks.

Shower slides.

Currently Loving October 2016

Can’t believe it’s the beginning of October! Here is what I am currently loving.

1.  Starboy by The Weekend and Daft Punk

I can't help my tween music taste, but really, The Weekend and Daft Punk together is the best duo ever. Kinda like if Coldplay were to jam out with Justin Bieber, I might die out of happiness. This song is everything. And helps me move.

September 2016 Work Out Playlist

One of Ken’s pet peeves is listening to me LISTEN to music to add to my playlists. Yes, it is a lot of stops and starts, but I need to in order to find good workout music! Since I am yet again running the NYC marathon and doing lots of long training runs, I am fired up for my newest running playlist.  Sorry, Babers! And yes, a reminder on why I run.

Hiking this summer. Yes, hiking is not running, and there is no ipod or music involved in hiking, but it is the closest photo I have of running.

More Than Me – Katie Meyler / Natori

This past week, the Natori team had the pleasure of hosting an event for More Than Me, an incredible organization founded by Katie Meyler whose mission is to provide education for young girls in Liberia. Guests gathered together at the Josie Natori Boutique for live music (provided by Ken and fiddler Heather Cole), drinks, and shopping, with a portion of sales donated to the More Than Me organization.

Ken and Katie have been friends for awhile and it was really moving to see them team up for a greater cause.

Fiddler Feature: Heather Cole

Readers know that for his 40th Birthday party, Ken put on a concert at Red Rooster with his guitar teacher on bass and a bunch of other musicians that he cobbled together through friends, Facebook, and random interactions.  Heather Cole was the fiddler, and she was great- Ken checked her out when she was busking in Grand Central. I love listening to street musicians, but I’ve always wondered what the experience is like on the other side.  The perfect opportunity for a Josie Girl interview!

Meet Heather Cole!

January 2016 Playlist

We listen to music at our house nonstop — and believe it or not, most of the time, our Pandora station is set to “Bailando” — Spanish pop music… the kids love it. Go figure. With that in mind, here is my workout playlist for the month…with lots of dance beats, latino twists, and energy to get you moving. (Note: If I could, my whole playlist would just be Bieber. I would marry him if I could, you better be-bieb it). Enjoy!

If you run with this playlist, you will end up an elite runner like these athletes.

End of Summer Workout Playlist

Here we are again….another workout playlist (you can’t have too many!) And yes, more music for yet another marathon….Enjoy!

Running with this playlist kinda makes me feel like I am a little kid chasing after a kite (picture from Early August 2015 of Cruzzie at the Oregon Coast).

March 2015 Workout Playlist

"Stretching"

“Stretching”

Once again, I am running the Paris Marathon this year….YUP, I am totally and utterly insane. Third Paris Marathon in a row (See 2013 Paris Marathon and 2014 Paris Marathon)! And with this $#$#$@*$$ crazy cold winter, the training has been no joke. Enter explicit run on sentences here!!!! I have done long runs on treadmills, in the snow, with sub freezing temperatures, and as a result have cracked feet, red face, and a severe case of grumpiness! It has been SO UNFUN LADIES!!!!! The only thing keeping me going is my music. So here is my March 2015 Workout Playlist (because in 3 days, it is March….go figure with this insane weather).

Currently Loving….

Almost February (and there’s a blizzard coming…. SAY WHATTTTTT?), here is what I am currently loving (other than my husband, kids, parents, siblings, friends, sunny warm weather, cheese, chocolate, peanut butter, granola, and television):

The Wet Brush

This brush is a miracle worker. It allows you to brush your hair (and your kids’ hair) when the hair is wet (or dry) without tear! It detangles the hair quicker and more easily than any other brush around. Cheap and effective.

Martha Stewart/Holiday 2014 Workout Playlist

Happy Monday!  We are in Seattle with my brother, his family, my sisters and parents.  Basically my whole side of the family under one roof.  Couldn’t be happier.  Our cross-country travel was mostly without incident, unlike 2 years ago.  Regardless, Ken likes making fun of me when I travel (I can’t help myself).

So, exciting news!

I am so excited to share that I have been asked to be a contributor to Martha Stewart’s website!    The site reached out to me and asked me to contribute posts as part of their effort to cultivate more original content.  My profile is here and first post on celebrating the holidays is here.

O.A.R. Sound Check

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! The highlight of the long weekend…or month of November….or 2014, was this past Saturday when Ken had the opportunity to perform during the sound check with his all-time-favorite-band, Of A Revolution (O.A.R.). It was the equivalent of PR’ing his marathon. Not only was it a rush for Ken, but for me, too. And I am a self-acclaimed Miss Sour Puss who *HATES* jam bands, dislikes guitar and saxophone solos, and despises fratty crowds. And yet, OAR was unbelievable. CRAZY GOOD, FUN, AWESOME, and now I am a huge fan. HUGE OMG HUGE! Count me in as the newest member of #OARgroupie. And having the good fortune of watching Ken experience a lifetime dream was pretty awesome, too. I love my Babers and watching my Babers be happy, makes me happy (transitive property).

End of Summer 2014 Playlist

I am in DISBELIEF that the summer is more than half way over. I am already fretting, panicking and mourning the fact that I will soon leave Oregon and return to NYC. I love many things about NYC (mainly, my husband), but other things, I can live without. SO NOTHING better than to motivate and think positive thoughts than with a bumping playlist. So here is my End-of-summer-2014-playlist. Enjoy!

Ken jamming out to his playlist (a little different than my playlist. Think OAR. On repeat. 7 times. NO JOKE).

January 2014 Playlist

Winter training in full effect! Back to the grind (or treadmill and pavement!) of long runs in preparation for the Paris Marathon. Therefore, it is CRUCIAL that I have good music to help guide me through the snow, rain, pain, drain. Here is my current workout playlist! Enjoy! And yes, I am a 14 year old girl in terms of my music selection. And proud of it!

And don’t forget to stretch! (Something that I *HATE* doing….but it makes such a difference.)

Happy running! Happy exercising! Happy ripped muscles! Happy sweat! Happy week!

P.S. If anyone needs some first marathon tips, I feel like I have a long list of pointers, advice, mantras, that allowed me to complete my first marathon! And thanks so much to the many friends and strangers who gave me tips throughout the journey!

P.P.S NYC Marathon 2013 or 2014 anyone??? Trying to convince Ken to do it with me.  The more the merrier!

Jambox

Until recently, my music listening set-up in our apartment was less than ideal.  We have Sonos set up, but for whatever reason, we rarely use it, and when we do it is to listen to NPR.  So like a college student, I basically only listened to music on my iPod and through computer speakers.  But no longer, now that I have JAMBOX!  Not fancy enough to have a built-in speaker system, but too old to not have speakers, I have found the perfect middle ground, with this tiny, amazing, innovative, and hip speaker system (thanks for the gift, brother and sister in law!)

big vs lil

Jambox comes in two different sizes; big and little. Both use the same wireless technology and have a deep, rich sound!

It is like a modern day ghetto-blaster! WHAT UP!

TINY

TEENY TINY!

Even the packaging is ultra-chic, modern, and fresh.

Spring 2012 Workout Playlist

Music is key for my daily workout. I need to be inspired to run/push/pedal/row faster. And nothing motivates me more than a good tune or jam. Once a month, I log on to itunes, go to “Top Singles” and press away….ending up spending too much money on too many songs to create a new playlist. But let me tell you, it is worth every $1.29 per song….hours of fun for me. And then the music and the beats soak into my bones and free my muscles and joints to work harder. I swear.

Ipod

(Orange) Ipod. Absolutely, positively essential to my workout.

(Don’t judge me by my music taste. No, I don’t like Dave Matthews Band, but I do love some pop in my life. Like a lot of teeny bopper pop. But who doesn’t????)

Spring 2012 Workout Playlist

Somebody That I Used to know (Gotye)
Take Care (Drake)
4 Minutes (Madonna featuring Justin Timberlake)
Poker Face (LLG vs. GLG Radio mix)
I Can Only Imagine (David Guetta)
Promises (Skrillex & Nero Remix)
We Found Love (Rihanna)
Paradise (Coldplay)
Turn Up the Music (Chris Brown)
Starships (Nicki Minaj)
Part of Me (Katy Perry)
Give Me All Your Luvin’ (Madonna)
Stronger (Kelly Clarkson)
We Are Young (Fun)
Good Feeling (Flo Rida)
Till the Sky Falls Down (Dash Berlin)
One Time (The Roots)
Glad You Came (The Wanted)
Only Girl in the World (Rihanna)

As you can see — I love a mixture of music. But in general, anything that Rihanna sings, I am a sucker for. And Madonna. And Drake. And Flo Rida. Okay, enough embarrassment for myself…..what are your favorite songs to work out to? Please do share!

Asics

I pronate when I run/workout, so I only wear asics for running shoes. I rotate between pairs too -- one white and green, one black and turquoise. Do these black sneakers make me more hip? (doubt it).

essentials

Water, shoes, and ipod. GOOD TO GO!
