Camp Wolf

Denim + Pendelton = DREAM COME TRUE.

Camp Wolf

Born in Portland, Oregon, as of September 2013 (brand stinking new!) Camp Wolf was inspired by a love for Pacific Northwestern life and a passion for making cool clothes for cool kids. Everything is hand sewn and one-of-a-kind — recycled vests with Pendleton fabric — to create a cheery, hip, and stylish look for kids ranging from newborn to 5 years old. Original and unique!

Lapland Bracelets

Scandinavia not only produces beautiful people and unbelievable weddings, but also amazing products. One of my favorite accessories is its Lapland bracelet. Lapland, inhabited by the Sami people (the only indigenous people of Scandinavia), is a region in northern Fennoscandia, stretching across Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Its bracelets are the best!

Pok Pok

Pok Pok

Ken and I recently took a day trip to Portland for some shopping and dining. We were fortunate to have the grandparents to babysit, so we could wander around the city like we did pre-kids. It was heavenly. And our visit to Pok Pok, was one of the highlights. Pok Pok has been in all the food magazines and blogs, thanks to their Portland flagship and their NYC opening last year. Talk of the town! We love venturing to new, hip restaurants in New York, but the restaurant has so much buzz (and no reservations) that it is a little difficult to plan. So Portland Pok Pok was the perfect place (how many sea shells at the sea shore). Continue Reading

Carbon38

As a fitness-buff with an unconventional professional career (math tutoring and blogging), I wear workout gear more than normal clothes. I know, embarrassingly true, but between workout and kid activities, it is hard for me to get (properly) dressed and am therefore often “that mom.” So when I stumbled across Carbon38, a new website with athletic gear catering to fashion-forward women, I was in hog heaven.

Haptic Lab Baby Quilts

Thanks to a friend, I was recently introduced to the amazingly chic baby quilts made by Haptic Lab, a Brooklyn based company (of course, everything cool is either from Sweden, Paris, or Brooklyn… or Eugene, Oregon).

Haptic Lab

Haptic Lab, founded in 2009 by architect and designer Emily Fischer, creates original, striking, and beautiful soft-map quilts. The Baby Soft-Maps are custom printed, hand-knotted, and 100% natural cotton. These quilts depict the map of a city or town of importance, whether it is a birthplace or a place with some other significance. They make incredible keepsake gifts for newborns, play mats for toddlers, and are just the perfect pop of color on your child’s bedroom chair. They can also be displayed as wall hangings.  VERSATILE PRESENT, HOLLA!

The baby quilts measure 42″ x 36″ and are available in three colorways (pink map, orange backing; navy map, green backing; green map, blue backing). Soft cotton loops are stitched to the binding of the quilt so it can be used as a wall-hanging. And you can personalize the quilt with the child’s name, birthdate, and up to three different locations.

Roseanna

Last year, I fell in love with a new (to me) clothing line, Roseanna. So in love, that I would run around the city, searching for every store that carried it. Roseanna was my hidden fashion gem. Basically, in my mind, Roseanna is a newer and better form of Isabel Marant. Don’t get me wrong, I love Isabel Marant, but Roseanna is higher quality with better designs, and patterns that are more fresh and unique.

roseanna

Roseanna, a Parisian label, was founded in 2007 by two female childhood friends (Roseanna is the combination of the first names of the two designers, Anne-Fleur Broudehoux and Roxane Thiery). Only a select number of stores carries Roseanna, but now, starting Spring 2013, Barney’s will carry them as well. What I love about Roseanna is their nonchalant-refined style which is urban but relaxed, fresh and unique. I have many of their pieces from Fall 2012, and look forward to trying on and buying some of their looks for Spring 2013!

HOW AMAZING?

HOW AMAZING IS THIS LOOK? I LOVE LOVE LOVE! And she is in a farmers market stand? Can I just become this lady?

Their current Spring 2013 collection is inspired by Brazil and features prints of tigers, palms, and cocoas. The whole collection is very summery, and tropical, transforming your look into a relaxed vacation. And can you believe one of their dresses in the collection is named “ANIKA” — spelled my way? Means I have to get it, right?

Anika

The Anika dress has a low cut V in the back. Definitely sexy and different.

I couldn’t take it any longer, so went to Barneys to get this top, The Alex.

The Alex top. I am excited to wear this in a casual environment, or a dressier occasion.

Nike Workout Pants

As a true Eugenian (as in Eugene, Oregon), I love Nike. Yes, sure, Nike is a huge corporation with greed and power, but it is also a company that supports the University of Oregon and was initially founded in Eugene. Gotta love anything that comes from Eugene. Including Nike. There was a time when Nike was overly boring and mainstream, but recently, they have improved their workout gear, and I COULDN’T BE MORE EXCITED!

Just do it.

Just do it.

I live in my workout gear. I put it on in the morning to work out in, and then I end up wearing it for the rest of the day. (I will even change into work clothes, go to work, and then change back into my workout gear). Although I am also an avid Lululemon fan (how can you not be?), I often feel bored and uninspired in the classic black workout legging and solid color top. Too much like every other mom in NYC who picks their kid up from preschool in the “workout ensemble.” So, thanks to Nike, I can make a statement and show my true colors EVEN WHEN WORKING OUT! HOLLA SISTER, HOLLA!

Ducks. JUST DO IT!

Ducks. JUST DO IT!

When my sisters asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I instantly said: “NIKE WORKOUT CLOTHES”. SO AWESOME! Thank you! Here are the two leggings I got and LOVE.

Nike Legend Dip Tie-Dye Capris

So if you know me by now, you know that (1) I love tie-dye (2) tie-dye looks good with everything (3) workout pants are important and so (1 + 2 + 3 = 6) AMAZING combination!

Frame Denim

Just like Miranda Kerr (because, I am JUST SO like Miranda Kerr- ha ha), my newest jean obsession is Frame Denim.

hotmama

Things we have in common: Both mothers of a baby boy, live in NYC, married to hot men, and love Frame denim. Call us soul sisters.

FRAME was founded in 2012 by Jens Grede and Erik Torstensson, both London-based Swedes (love them Swedes).  The two came together to create the perfect pair of jeans by “bringing together the quality and heritage of denim manufacturing in Los Angeles, with the influence of a London style, cut and fit.”  How chic are the Brits? Or the Swedes? Or the British-based Swedes?

jeans

Some of the jeans. I am in love with all the different washes.

The different washes of the jeans are innovative without being overly weird. Bright, interesting, and strong hues.  I am most obsessed with the light blue pair of Frame denim exclusive with Net-a-porter.

Family Photographer

First things first, best of luck with everyone preparing for Hurricane Sandy.  Hopefully this won’t be too bad, but the news  is definitely doing a good job of scaring the life out of me and everyone else.  My initial disaster pans were to go to the gym twice today, get a mani/pedi, and make cornbread, but it is becoming more clear that we could be in for some serious conditions.  Good luck, everyone.  Separately, we were supposed to announce the winner of last Monday’s giveaway today, but the Natori offices are closed, so we will need to wait until everything reopens.  Sorry about that!

On to today’s post. As soon as I had a child of my own, I became obsessed with finding the right family photographer. I searched for someone whose aesthetic was clear, simple, modern, original, and clean. Davina to the rescue! Since we first met her in September 2011, we have hired her time and time again to take photos of the family. We have two walls dedicated to her portraits. I love everything about Davina; her quality work, her easy and laid back demeanor, her frames, and of course, the photographs themselves.

Best NYC Mexican Food

Being a native West Coaster with a Mexican mother, Mexican food = comfort for me. For some, mashed potatoes or macaroni and cheese makes them feel at home. For me, it is burritos, tacos, salsa, and cilantro. It is like cuddling up with a cashmere blanket in front of a fire. Unfortunately, New York has NO GOOD REASONABLY PRICED MEXICAN FOOD. I am against going to a Mexican restaurant and paying more than 10 dollars for beans and tortillas. I mean, really, how do the high end Mexican restaurants survive????

(I realize many of you may be reading to find out about today’s giveaway… coming at the end of the post!)

So, I was totally and utterly excited when I tumbled across this article that mentioned Tortilleria Nixtamal as one of the BEST restaurants in NYC. Not the best hole in the wall, not one of the cheapest eats, but one of the best restaurants in general. SOLD.

Nixatamal serves affordable and good quality food. It is the type of Mexican food I love; dirty and cheap, without being dirty. The ingredients that they use are also fresh and high quality. Burrito Boy doesn’t even do that! The produce comes directly from Mexico via a locally owned distributor, the meat comes from the local butcher, the fish comes from Astoria Seafood, the cheese from a local producer of Mexican cheeses, and the salsa is made in house.

The menu itself is phenomenal.

Dolfie Shoes

You can take the girl out of Oregon, but you can’t take the Oregon out of the girl. Welcome to my life. Even though I am a NYC transplant and live in the crazy, wild, intense Big Apple, I still wear my clogs and birkenstocks like they were the newest pair of Christian Louboutin or Jimmy Choo heels. I just can’t strip them out of my life or I would feel like I was losing a little part of who I am. So, enter Dolfie shoes, THE NEWEST MOST AWESOME PAIR OF WEST COAST SHOES IN THE WORLD (even though they are from Europe). They look hip enough to make me look hip, but hippie enough to make me feel like myself. It’s the perfect compromise of NYC and Eugene. I love. I die. MAJ. SWOON. GASP. (For those of you who are curious about today’s giveaway, you need to wait until the end of the post!)

Written up as the “hybrid of boat shoe and moccasin,” these Dolfie ‘Louis’ shoes are a dream. Surfer girl (although I don’t surf) meet Gossip Girl (although I am not 17 years old) to the max!
