Paris has so much to offer….food, clothing, chocolate, beauty products, you name it. On our recent trip, I visited (thanks to a friend’s recommendation) the most insanely beautiful and luxurious fragrance and skincare boutique, Buly 1803. Originally founded in 1803 by Frenchman Jean-Vincent Bully, who was known for his signature perfumes and scented vinegars, it was reopened in April 2014 by Victoire and Ramdane Touhami on the quaint Rue Bonaporte in St Germain de Près. It maintains an old vibe with some new, modern flair (they took out the second ‘l’ in Buly to make it similar, but different). This place is incredible — old school, antique, and classic, but with new skin care concoctions that draw on the virtues of natural ingredients. All of the products are made without parabens, phenoxyethanol or silicone! What is not to love?
My kids hate having their hair washed. “Wash hair night” isn’t fun for any of us, as they scream and whine like little (grumpy) puppy dogs. So when my hairdresser recently suggested I purchase a natural leave-in-conditioner (no rinsing), I was happy to try it out. And what a success! Now instead of pouring water over their head TWO times (shampoo and conditioner), I only have to rinse their hair once. Little Green not only smells good and conditions their hair, but it is natural and green, too. Amen.
Sorry for the silence on my end — went to Paris for our 7th anniversary — ate, shopped, slept, walked, parlez francais-ed, and came back to NYC. All in the span of 3 days. Holy jet-lag-where-am-I-what-language-should-I-speak. So much fun!
In Paris, even their cars are more elegant and chic.
My newest natural beauty find is another product created in my beloved home state of Oregon. Olio E Sasso is a rich emollient balm for your face, body, or lips created with natural ingredients (you only want to put the finest on your body!) It is the silkiest, most moisturizing balm I have used.
Recently, I have been on a natural ingredient beauty kick. I pride myself in eating healthily, so it makes sense that I put natural and organic ingredients ON my body, too. So here are my 3 current favorite natural beauty finds!
3 natural beauty finds
Wanna be a Maui Babe? I certainly do! And my only shot of becoming one is by using Maui Babe products! Created in Hawaii, the lotions, sunscreen and after-sun products are luxurious, soothing, and have the best SCENT EVER. All of the ingredients are natural and found on the island of Hawaii itself.
I fully admit that I am no make-up pro. Far from it, as I usually wear nothing on my face. So when I do find beauty products that I love, I can’t wait to share them! Here they are:
Having been a math teacher for 10 years and a student before that, this will be my first Fall without going back to ‘school.’ Freshly retired, (I will still be private tutoring, and of course, writing the blog!) I still love the feeling of buying school supplies, starting a new year, and becoming (more) organized. Here are my favorite supplies slash beauty products slash accessories, for “Back to School.”
Knock Knock To-Do Note Pad
Confession! I am a hoarder! And one of the items I hoard is lip balm. I am constantly on the lookout for the best, most divine, practical, beautiful, tasty lip balm out there. And I can never have too many! The more the merrier! Here are my four favorite right now:
What can make a toothbrush deserve its own blog post? A commitment to environmentalism and a unique subscription option that is affordable and good for your teeth! Not to mention unique packaging, materials and bent-body design.
Preserve launched in 1997 with this incredible toothbrush. They make the toothbrush, and then when you are done with it, you can send it back to them so a partner company can grind it up and turn it into plastic lumber for other plastic goods (picnic tables, park benches, the sorts). It is the epitome of recycling! Preserve toothbrushes are sold on drugstore, amazon, and even Whole Foods.
Yep, it is made from 100% recycled, BPA-free, #5 plastic (for some incredibly interesting research on plastic, take a look at Dr. Giora Proskurowski‘s work. FASCINATING stuff) and the toothbrush bristles are made of new nylon (germaphobes, no need to worry).
For an annual $15 subscription fee, Preserve will deliver a new Toothbrush every three months (just what the dentist orders!). It’s actually a great deal. For those who can’t wait, Recycline offers four American-made brushes in a bulk pack, complete with return-mail packs. Amazing, right? Happy Brushing your teeth! ESPECIALLY AFTER ALL THE EASTER CANDY FROM YESTERDAY! Have a great week!!
I tend not to wear a lot of makeup, but the makeup that I do put on, I love. These three beauty products are new additions to my bathroom cabinet, and I can’t get enough of them!
Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss
Launched in 2004, Hourglass Cosmetics is a paraben-free beauty brand that offers the most luscious and beautiful lip colors. I am particularly fond of the extreme sheen lip gloss which is deep, shiny, and luxurious. The active ingredients also hydrate the lips which prevents them from cracking or chapping. The lip gloss goes on smoothly, adds a punch of color, and relieves thirsty lips without flaking or drying the color.
This lip gloss doesn’t have the stickiness that many others have. It adds color without being overly matte, is hydrating, and gives off the perfect amount of shimmer and sheen to the lip.
Small enough to hide in the palm of your hand.
Chanel Bronzer Brush
Is there anything that Chanel makes that isn’t super fabulous and first class?
