Switchel – The New Hipster Drink

In my search for the best New York Kombucha (because I miss every day, my Humm Kombucha from Oregon), I came across “Switchel.” Switchel, originated in the Caribbean and popular in America in the 17th century, is the new ‘wellness’ drink on the east coast.  I bought a case (very hopeful that it would work out).  Love.

Switchel is made of water mixed with vinegar (sounds gross), and depending on the flavor, it is seasoned with ginger, lemon juice, and/or a sweetener such as maple syrup. It is now found at Whole Foods, some gyms, and all the hipster joints.  Definitely the new hipster drink (along with matcha) and is also a new favorite of this Mexi-Pole-Jew.

Presented in a mason jar (obvi), Up Mountain Switchel, has four ingredients: water, ginger, apple-cider vinegar, and maple syrup. It is refreshing, tart, effervescent, not overly sweet, and has magic powers to aid any illness. Sounds like a dream come true, right? So bottoms up, drink up, get on trend, and subscribe to the benefits of this potion.

They come in three flavors; original, mate, and lemon. I, myself, prefer the lemon.

Are you cool enough to drink Switchel? Just think of it as a fermented ginger lemonade that does your body good! Here is the link to buy online.  Get on the band-wagon-of-awesomeness.

  1. Thanks for sharing.. I try to take a shot of apple cider vinegar daily, though I dread the experience (sour/can’t breathe/need a chaser) Switchel sounds like a tastier and healthier alternative.

    Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
