Hello Tooth Fairy!

And so it happened……my (soon-to-be-6-year-old) son lost his first tooth this past Sunday.

Bottom tooth be gone!

Bottom tooth be gone!

As many of his closest friends have already lost teeth, I have been researching (YUP, true) the going rate for Tooth Fairies.  So together, we wrote a letter to the Tooth Fairy and placed it in his Tooth Pillow underneath his real pillow and waited for the Tooth Fairy to come.

The letter written by Cruzzie (although the middle section, was dictated by him, obviously).

So what is the going rate these days? I read a lot of different things — $1, $2 bills (which is what I wanted, but when banks are closed on Sundays, I had to start a new tradition), $5, a toy, pierced ears (a la Cruzzie’s beloved cousin, Alagna), etc….but one of my friends said a quarter — from a different state in the US so that the kid could learn their states (this friend is Queen Multi-tasker), as well as a concrete image of the Tooth Fairy flying….so that is what we did. Hello 25 cents!

Our rate is $1.25. A dollar bill and a quarter.

But I was a little worried that 25 cents was too small, so I upped it with a one dollar bill. PHEW that felt so much more! Our rate is $1.25. A dollar bill and a quarter.

His first quarter from Wisconsin! Hello Tooth Fairy that just flew in from Wisconsin!

His first quarter from Wisconsin! A cow, cheese, and corn — helllloooo all you need to know about Wisconsin.

The note back from the Tooth Fairy (I wrote it but disguised my handwriting is poorly slanted and ugly weird cursive to MAKE sure that he knew it was not me who actually wrote it).

The goods for the teeth: the letter, the reward from the Tooth Fairy, the pillow, and a jar to keep the teeth (I know, gross, BARF, and yet still doing it).

Believe it or not, this was a present from someone when Cruzzie was born. When asked what it was, they responded with a tooth holder -- SAY WHAT? THOSE EXIST? AND IN REAL SILVER? Makes me nauseous of saving all his baby teeth, morbid, and gross, but I guess I have to do it because I have this weird little jar. WITH AN "N" engraved in it. Such a weird thing to own (and weirder to give it as a present !) Embracing the weirdness and rocking the baby teeth in the jar.

Another shot of the missing tooth, here we go, Tooth Fairy, about to get real.

Do you have any traditions for your kids when they lose their teeth? I am excited for the quarter trick, and to teach Cruzzie more about the different states — he was super curious about Wisconsin and wanted to know all about it (and then asked where his 100 dollar bill was. NO JOKE, we live on the Upper East Side of NYC!!!).  Looking forward to more teeth!

  1. I love that you wrote that the quarter is from the last place she was in! Very cute.

  2. Great idea!! I love the pillow and the jar- though I can’t imagine how it will look filled with teeth- cool for boys I suppose. I’m sure Cruz is looking forward to which state he’ll get next!

  3. Congrats Cruzzie! And happy birthday! $1 + quarter sounds perfect. As a kid I remember seeing a jar of my dad’s old teeth bleh! and mine and Tammy’s ha!

  4. Try them again with the mini rolls. They come in a bag and you do&#182n7;t have to unwrap anything! Let us know if you bake them again.
