Kinfolk

Coffee table goodness.

Obsessed with anything from Portland, Brooklyn, and / or Stockholm, I recently came across the magazine, Kinfolk [1], from Portland, Oregon. And now, I am hooked. This inspirational, quarterly, ad-free print magazine is a piece of art, not just a magazine. Goodbye, Cosmo [2], and Hello, Basquiat [3]! (And yes, I had this planned before the New York Times Sunday Styles article [4] yesterday! The Josie Girl and the NYT apparently think alike!)

Kinfolk

The magazine collects ideas from a community of artists, writers, designers, photographers, and cooks who write, photograph, and display images and articles on everything from creating small gatherings to finding new things to make and do. You feel more beautiful and whole just by READING this magazine.

The magazine is more like a book than a magazine, as it is printed on uncoated paper, and contains beautiful imagery, thoughtful essays, informative interviews, practical tips, and stories. I am in the process of collecting each issue and keeping them as books. They make a perfect coffee / side table book / gift for a hostess, or just inspiration for your home, kitchen, and self. Kinfolk is truly a lifestyle magazine, attracting anyone who loves food, decor, photographs, and leading a balanced and hip life!

Founded in 2011, Kinfolk has published 11 issues and is becoming more wide-spread and internationally known. In addition to the print magazine, they also have an online presence and a book [5]. I can’t wait to order the book! Each issue has a specific focus, and does a complete and full 360 degree look at that concept. For example, the current issue is the Home Issue. It does a thorough exploration of the meaning of home, what it looks like, how different people arrange their homes, etc. I can’t get enough!
