The Josie Girls of the Month will represent the Josie by Natori collection, through blogging (on HerCampus – this won’t affect this blog outside of posts highlighting the new Josie Girls), social media, and more. Very excited to get college women more exposed to the collection!

The first Josie Girl is Ashley Young, from West Virginia Wesleyan College. Enjoy the interview, and the pics of Ashley in her Josie gear!

When did you realize your love of fashion was more than the typical girl’s?

It started at a young age. I’ve loved clothes for as long as I can remember, but I found myself taking more fashion risks toward the end of high school. I thrived and prided myself on wearing a single “statement piece,” whether it was an eye-catching headband or patterned pants. I still dress that way, but my style has evolved to something more classic and sophisticated, all the while keeping that girly vibe. That’s just me.

What do you like most about the Josie collection?

The quality of the collection goes above and beyond all others. It’s soft and comfortable, and the prints are vivacious, youthful, and fresh. Those are qualities that never go out of style.

What is your favorite Josie bra?

The lace detailing on the Etoile Pop-Up bra is really beautiful. What girl doesn’t like lace?

Josie Natori is a huge world traveler. Where did you feel most inspired?

I always feel most inspired when I dip my toes into the ocean on a warm night. When you’re in the ocean, no matter where you are, you’re suddenly touching all of the waters in the world. Rushing waves, paired with the dark night sky, give me such a serene feeling—one that leads my mind to thoughts that could inspire anyone.

If you could throw a party with no budget, what would you do?

I’d have a small get together with my closest friends and family. We’d probably bake brownies and watch Bridesmaids. Yeah, I’d like that. Simple, really.

What do you wear to bed?

Something comfy and cute so I can walk down the hall to visit my friends. That’s what the college life is about!

What is your daily beauty routine?

Putting on makeup with ease is like painting a canvas that’s already been primed, so I moisturize with Vanicream lotion and apply Covergirl loose powder foundation all over. It gives skin a dewy look, and with less application time, too. I quickly brush blush onto my cheeks and run eyeliner along my top lash line, then apply two coats of mascara, first with regular and then with waterproof. (I’ve found that waterproof mascara has added shine and makes lashes “pop.”) I dot small amounts of eyeliner on my bottom lash line, then apply my favorite Maybelline Eye Studio eye shadow. My look is finished with a cheerful, yet almost natural lip. As for my hair: I wash it, brush it, let it air-dry for a little while, then twist it into a ponytail and wait for the natural waves to take hold. Remove the ponytail holder, and voilà! Wavy hair. Donna Karan once said that if it takes you more than 20 minutes to get ready for the day, you have some problems with your appearance. I’ve tried to take that phrase to heart.

What do you know now fashion-wise that you wish you had known in high school?

My thoughts on fashion haven’t changed much since then. Sure, my style has grown up, but I’ve always lived by one major rule: matching is not matching. I’ve just expounded upon that concept along the way.
What’s been your biggest fashion score?

Any time I can wear high-end fashion pieces (or look-alikes of a similar quality) for a low price, that’s my kind of score.

Who would be your ideal celebrity to interview or dress?

Miranda Kerr. She is effortlessly beautiful, and she has the mind of a businesswoman. Because beauty alone has become a major focus of today’s culture, it’s really rare and incredible to find someone with both of those characteristics. I could intelligently interview and dress her.

Thanks Ashley, and thanks to HerCampus for the great partnership and for helping find more Josie Girls!
