Fashion Star Preview-Interview

Who is ready for Fashion Star Season 2?  I am!

For those who didn’t watch last year, Fashion Star is an innovative program bringing together the worlds of realty TV, fashion, and game shows.  Contestant designers put looks together with the help of celebrity mentors (Nicole Ritchie, Jessica Simpson, John Varvatos) and try to convince buyers from 3 department stores (this season: Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, Express) to place orders. Stores that order have the looks available for purchase the next day. (You guessed it – the show definitely isn’t live!).  While Season 1 was entertaining, there is definitely room for improvement, and I am excited to see how the changes they made to the format and personnel play out.

Season 2 starts Friday night on NBC at 8 PM.  To get all of the Josie Girls excited, we sat down with Terron Schaefer, Saks Chief Creative Officer (and the Saks buyer on the show) for a preview of Season 2.  Terron is also the owner of the coolest voice ever!

Cool name. Cool look. Cool voice!

Cool name. Cool look. Cool voice!

Louise Roe is the new host this year (replacing Elle MacPherson).  How is she changing the show?

Louise is a fashion journalist and commentator – Elle was “the body”  and a glamour girl – Louise will probably appeal to a younger “contemporary” audience. (TOUGH question – I loved Elle and we are good friends – I missed her)

What other changes can we expect?

The designers are now divided into teams – each mentor has four. Every week one will be eliminated. Mentors work closely with each designer…

How do you think participating has helped Saks?

Season One was like a ten hour commercial for Saks Fifth Avenue

What have you enjoyed most about being on the show?

Always fun looking at “pretty clothes”. This season there are also menswear designers. Important for Saks to always be looking for new talent – we launched the careers of Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs, Jimmy Choo, Haider Ackermann and Estee Lauder, etc.- and last season’s winner Kara Laricks – whose spring collection is now on-line at saks.com

How were the designers this year compared to last?

Much more serious and more experienced.

Is there anything particular that all of the Josie Girls look out for?

My final comment to Hunter when she had to decide between Express and Saks!

Thanks Terron.. we can’t wait!

  1. Elle MacPherson was sweet, but she wasn’t the greatest host. I am excited to see what Louise brings to the show.

  2. I am glad to hear Terron say the designers are better this year. I think they were the weak link last year. We will see!

    • we watched a little bit this past friday night, and it is true that the designers seem to be better this year….let’s hope!
